Most of the time, you see fog on your windows when the gasket around your windows fails. Insulated windows consist of two panes of glass with a layer of air in between. This air, which is usually argon or krypton, will help improve the energy efficiency of your windows by reducing their heat loss. Energy-efficient windows help keep the temperature of the air in the house stable.
A thermal insulating glass unit (IGU) is installed on the interior of almost all windows today. An IGU enhances the R-value of window glass, resulting in a significant boost in the window’s energy efficiency. If the seal begins to deteriorate, the windows are seized, and the IGU is deactivated.
If you have insulated windows, the gasket around them begins to break over time. A window gasket often fails due to the following factors:
Experience water: After a flood or a heavy rainstorm, check the seals around your windows. If too much water accumulates near your windows, the seals run the risk of being damaged.
Excess Heat: As warmed air expands, the air inside a double-glazed window can cause the gaskets to stretch. Although this will not be a problem on every hot summer day, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause your window gaskets to weaken over time.
Getting older: At some point, after a few decades, you notice a layer of fog on the inside of the double-glazed windows, which it seems impossible to remove. The gasket must withstand the repeated opening and closing of the window over its entire lifetime. Moreover, it must withstand extremely high temperatures both in summer and winter.
Fog can develop when moisture from the air coming out of the glass condenses and forms on the glass panes. The fog that develops when the temperature cools is caused by heat from the inside, which mixes with cold from the outside, creating a layer of fog. Extreme temperatures both inside and outside your home may have caused the fog to form on your windows.
Before your window begin to fog, make sure you have sufficient ventilation throughout the house. You should be able to use your energy-efficient windows for many years to come. Make sure they are correctly installed to get the most out of them.
Another method to prevent windows for the home is to buy energy-efficient windows. Make significant investments in high-quality, energy-efficient window products. Your home’s energy consumption is 25 to 30% through heat gain and loss from windows and doors. Check with your window manufacturer to see if your windows come with a lifetime warranty.
Make sure that you can rely on the person who will install your windows. Ask your contractor to find out about your previous experience with installing windows.
